I wanted to get the opinion of the masses here.
Scenario:
Bodhi's current farm has flooded in the spring in the past. The manager/owner is predicting it will flood again. I get a call from another boarder for something unrelated and she mentions that the owner is planning on moving the horses the 28th of February to a new farm. You have not gotten a call or email about this (He does not like to call my cell because it is long distance but he has my email).
He is moving the horses to a farm much farther away then the current location. The board will not go up but you have to pay for tack storage and use of arenas (which is currently included in my board). I have never been to this farm so know nothing about the reputation or facilities. The manager currently under contract to care for Bodhi will not be in charge of his care, he will be forwarding my checks directly to this new facility who will be providing all the care.
I feel really funny about this--- Is this normal? What would you think?
Yeah, it's weird. Basically, your horse is moving to a new boarding facility and someone else is picking it out for you. Good luck with it all!
ReplyDeleteSounds mighty odd to me - I'd check it out thoroughly.
ReplyDeleteI'd find it odd for sure.
ReplyDeleteI would not be okay with that. I understand why the owner would want to move to avoid the flooding but not why the owner doesn't think it's necessary to tell you about it.
ReplyDeleteThat is weird - why wouldn't they tell you in advance? And then give you some options or something...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds mighty shady to me. Now, maybe the owner is planning on telling you about it soon, but still...I don't like the sound of it. If I were you, I would begin barn-hunting right away. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be comfortable with having the care of my horse transferred to someone else.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would be okay with that. It is like someone is telling you how to take care of your horse, or worse, not telling you all. SOme questions...Is it temporary? How did you find out that the owner was moving? Are you sure they are not just moving their horses yet willing to take care of yours? Do you now this other farm? Do you like it? How much more expensive will it be? Are there any other farms closer that you would rather board at?
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be taking it pretty well. It just seems odd that you were not told. I feel like he should have told you in person when he was even thinking about it, let alone after he decided to do it.
Go with your gut! I wouldn't be comfortable with any part of that except the being out of reach of flood waters. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteIt's weird, yep. I hate hate hate it when BOs pull hot moves like that...though this is a first! Could he have some financial deal going w/ the "new" barn (hell, he's giving them allllll this business, hundreds or thousands more dollars a month, I can't believe there's not some kind of kickback? Then again, I'm cynical). The not telling you, and you finding it out almost accidentally is the worst part. Is he waiting until the last minute to tell you so you have no other options? Sorry, it's a bummer of a situation, especially if you really like him or your current barn. Good luck.
ReplyDeletethank you everyone. It is good to hear this is not a normal practice. I am going barn hunting again tomorrow. I will check out the barn the manager picked and compare it to the others in the area and decide from there.
ReplyDeleteCrazy.... definitely wouldn't feel good about this without looking into the other facility extensively.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd care for that at all. Most unusual to just up and move an entire stable for sure; but without word to the owners? That's just too weird.
ReplyDeleteI think you should investigate this immediately and be prepared to shop around for another place to house your little man.
