Oh Canada!

Well we had a great trip to Winnipeg. I think I am really going to like living there (minus the snow of course) We found a place to live and board Bodhi. Actually the places are one in the same. There is a guest house at the boarding facility and it just so happens to be going up for rent at a perfect time!

So I am going to finally have a house. No more apartment living! This could mean a garden (in the summer). Stella will have a yard and Bodhi will be just feet from my doorstep. Here are some photos of our future home for the duration of my graduate degree.

The Barn

The house (this was the only photo that did not have someone's car or something in it for courtesy I thought I should not post them)

Cupcake the pig

Big indoor (sorry for the blur)

Nice outdoor!

I am so excited! I still need to arrange transport for Bodhi.... Any advise?

  1. I have missed you Golden! I hope you had fun in Canadia :) I can't believe you are relocating from Fla to Canada (have you gone mad??). How cool that you will be living with Bod? Thats awesome.

  2. As a Canadian, I can't believe you are going from Florida to Winnipeg! :-) I'm from Ottawa where it is cold and snowy in the winter and I think Winnipeg is even colder! (not to worry you or anything...)

I'm so glad you found a great place to live - at the boarding stable, of all places! It sounds great to be right near your horse. The facility looks nice too.

Hope you can find a good transport option for Bodhi - I guess you'd want to find a person/company that does long haul trips on a regular basis and that was insured...

I hope you and your family will enjoy your time in our great country! :-)

  3. Welcome to Canada! Winnipeg is a nice city and easy to get around, if I remember correctly. Your new facilities look great! Fantastic that you can "live" together.

  4. Wow that place is really nice! At least you have a nice big arena to ride in this winter!

  5. Oooohh, you are in for a world of hurt! I moved from Chicago to Miami and I can NOT imagine doing it the other way!
As for transport advice, I have heard great things about Equine Express, Brook Ledge, Beacon Hill, and Hauled Wright. Salem was picked up by C & E Horse Transportation and they had a really, really nice rig. Pics are on my blog.
For such a long haul, I would definitely invest in some UlcerGard, Horse Quencher (both of these for both before and after the haul, and the HQ also for the duration of the trip) and Probios for when he gets to his new home. Maybe even some aloe vera juice for the first few days at the new place in order to reduce stomach acid.
Oh, and I'm not sure how much trailering you've done with Bodhi, but it would be a good idea to get him used to wearing his travelling gear a few weeks before he leaves. I know Salem definitely needed some time to get used to his!
Good luck and please keep us updated!

  6. I know I am looking at a drastic change for sure. I am looking forward to it as a new challenge. I may be spending some time in Africa for my degree so talk about extremes in weather!

Hah! Rachel I missed you guys too! I bet I will have lots of time this winter to blog my little heart away!

  7. That is an amazing indoor. I bet you'll both be very happy (and cold). I don't envy you the move, but enjoy it!

    Sorry, no useful shipping advice.

  8. You really are a golden girl -- what great luck finding a great place so close to Bodhi! You'll be ok with the cold, you just have to truly dress appropriately. Ask for recommendations in 6 months or so!

  9. yaaay your back!!! I know it hasn't been THAT long, but I have been dying to hear about Canada! The barn looks very nice and I am so jealous you will get to live at the barn. Plus, major points on it being a house and not an apartment. My favorite part of the barn... the PIG!!! I want one! Random story, but a lady in our hometown had a big pot belly pig and my dad (who owns a moving and storage company) had to go "move" the pig every time it had to go to the vet lol. Wanted one ever since

  10. You should definitely get a pig someday! I was unfamiliar with them until I moved to the barn I am at currently. They have 4 lovely pigs and they are just amazing animals. So intelligent and friendly. :)

  11. Wow! Your new place looks fabulous! And how nice that you and Bodhi will be together. I love the pig! Cupcake? Somebody there has a great sense of humor.

  12. It sure looks like a great place and how exciting you will have a house to live in right on the farm close to Bodhi. I think you're going to have a wonderful time. As for the weather, I'm sure you can get used to the change in temps. There's always lots of warm clothes to keep you warm. Once you adjust I'm sure it will be no big deal. Oh and Cupcake is adorable. This is going to be an exciting adventure for all of you.

I think Frizzle gave you some good advice about trailering. I think if you check out Brook Ledge you'll find that they are probably very reliable.
